Alderney Week 2023 Gets Underway

Alderney's population is expected to double this week (7-12 August) as the Bailiwick's biggest carnival gets underway.

Alderney Week dates back to 1948 and is host to hundreds of activities every year.

This year’s theme is Wonderland.

Traditionally the carnival begins with decorated floats parading down Victoria Street.

Alderney resident and past organiser, Ilona Soane-Sands says the crowds are awesome:

"We're looking at fifteen hundred people coming during Alderney week - either for one or two days or the whole week.

It brings people who have moved away from the island back. They join up with their families, and remember the good old times."

She says there's something for everyone:

"We've got the daft raft race, the man-powered flight, the gala night, and the torchlight procession is very important.

You name it, there is something happening every day."
