8-year-old girl becomes youngest person to complete South Coast Challenge

Hallie-Rose Gray has become the island's youngest person to finish the Jersey Mencap South Coast Challenge unaided.

The eight-year-old received a certificate after completing the walk officially confirming her new accomplishment.

She challenged herself to raise money for the charity as both of her parents work in the care sector.

When speaking with her god-mother and the owner and director of Youniversal care, Nicola King, about why she wanted to do it, Hallie-Rose said:

"I want to help the people you help."

The young islander was originally set to complete the short walk but ultimately decided she wanted to finish the full 15-mile hike from La Roquer Harbour to Corbiere Lighthouse.

Hallie-Rose and her father, Daniel, took around six hours and 16 minutes to reach the finish line.

Her mother, Chloe Gray, says:

"We are all extremely proud of Hallie and her caring nature."

Nana and Poppa Gray, Carolyn and Chris, say to say they are proud of her achievement would be the biggest understatement of the year.

"She is extremely pleased with herself and has already told them that she wants to sign up for next year’s walk."
