Ways To Pay 2019 Tax Bill Booklet Sent Out

Prior-year taxpayers will get a booklet through the post this week with details on how, and when, they can pay their outstanding 2019 bills.

29,300 customers are being moved onto current-year basis following a States Assembly decision in 2020.

Their 2019 bills were frozen.

They will also get a letter this week to confirm their outstanding bill.

There are three options for paying it off, which are:

  • Paying it in one lump sum - either online at gov.je/payPYB or by calling 01534 440235. It can be paid any time, even if another option is chosen initially. Around 700 taxpayers have already made a lump sum payment.
  • Committing to pay upon retirement using a financial product or asset
  • Entering into a payment plan that will start in 2025 - The full bill has to be repaid by 31 December 2041. It can be paid off over 20 years if advance payments are made this year.

They have until 30 September 2024 to confirm their choice.

Once they've chosen, they can fill out the election form here.

The government is urging them to read 'What happens if' information online or in printed forms at parish halls first before making their decision.

"We are keen to ensure that we are providing information to customers about payment options for their PYB 2019 tax bill, so they have plenty of time to decide how they want to pay it, and those wanting to spread payments over the maximum possible time can do so." - Richard Summersgill, Comptroller of Revenue.

Anyone who doesn't choose by the 30 September 2024 deadline will be set up on a 17-year payment plan, starting in 2025.

The payment and admin process will be managed by the Finance Hub.

They can be contacted on 01534 440235.

"Hundreds of taxpayers have already paid their 2019 bill in full, but we know there are many others who will prefer to pay over a longer time period, or on retirement.

The letter and booklet will help them to make a fully informed decision, and if they’re ready, they can confirm their choice to us now, using the online form." - Graham Chidlow, Director of the Finance Hub.
