Volunteer Lifesavers Rewarded

Three St John Ambulance Jersey volunteers have received the 'Spirit of Jersey' award for helping to save a man's life.

Helen Clayton, Neil Vallois and Tom Hughes jumped into action last month by performing CPR and using a defibrillator on the patient.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition but has made a positive recovery.

The 'Spirit of Jersey' award was last presented in 2014.

"Helen radioed to get Neil so Neil came down with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and oxygen so we started CPR and administered one shock.

"The States Ambulance service then arrived and we found out that he's stable in hospital so he survived everything we did. It just happened that everything fell into place.

"We just go into mode of you're there, you're the people in green that everyone is looking at to help this patient. It's up to you, training kicks in and when you have your team around you everyone does their little bit.

"It all fell into place and it worked at that time."
