Third Airport Security Scanner Installed

Work has started to install the third security scanner at Jersey Airport, which will see the removal of the last conventional X-ray machine.

The first two new scanners were installed in July, with one conventional one staying as backup.

Passengers told Channel 103 that the new machines had failed just hours after going into service, causing delays and confusion as they were forced to tip out liquids over 100ml.

The technology, which will be in all airports by June 2024, allows security guards to see a 360-degree scan of people's bags, so electronics can be kept inside the bag and containers with as much as two litres can be taken through in cabin baggage.

Building work to put in the third scanner is underway this week.

Hoarding will be erected while the installation is underway, and we will guide passengers through the new layout.” - Maria Le Tiec, Head of Security.

The final stage of the £3 million upgrade to the airport's security system will happen next month when full-body scanners are installed.
