The 'Jersey Contemporary Musician' competition is a new alternative to the traditional 'Young Musician of the Year' title.
The final of the island-first music competition is on Saturday (26 April). It aims to give a stage to musicians who perhaps didn't learnt their instrument through the traditional methods of lessons and grades.
The contest will see the winners of each heat perform for the title.
The finalists are
Laura Kilianczyk – Winner of the Singing Heat
Matt Jackson – Winner of the Drum Heat
Benjamin Wilson – Winner of the Guitar Heat
Alexander Turpin – Winner of the Keyboard Heat

Dr Graham Cox, Principal of Jersey Music Service, says this is the first of its kind.
"The idea behind this was to allow young contemporary musicians to show off their skills in a way that they don't normally get.
"These young people very often learnt their skills in a different way, copying and developing their own skill set.
"The Jersey Young Musician of the Year is for orchestral musicians, and we thought there aren't opportunities for those who didn't follow the formal process.
"There are things like Battle of the Bands, which are really successful, but they pit band against band rather than displaying the individual skills of each musician.
"We're hoping that this competition provides a large amount of kudos for these musicians."

Each finalist will perform a short set of personally chosen music.
They will be adjudicated by Rhys Matthews, a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music.
Benjamin Wilson won the guitar heat
Not only is winning the title and getting to this stage important, Graham says it's also important for the musicians to have an audience.
Tickets for the final at Jersey Arts Centre, which starts at 7pm, are available here.
