King Charles III and Queen Camilla thank islanders for a 'wonderful' trip to Jersey and for making the day 'so memorable'.

The King and Queen have expressed their thanks to people in Jersey following their visit to the island.

Around 800 people gathered to celebrate the first monarch to visit the island in nearly 20 years, and to stay overnight since King Charles II.

A spokesperson for the Palace says Their Majesties are so grateful to the many people who turned out in such large numbers to make the day so enjoyable.

The Royal Couple say 'they only wish that time, weather and circumstances had allowed them the opportunity to meet more [islanders] in person.'

The Bailiff, Sir Tim Le Cocq, says despite the weather, the visit was a great success and one that will surely be remembered for many years.

"I would, personally, like to thank every islander who joined us yesterday to welcome Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

"Despite the unprecedented weather, the Visit was a great success.

"When I saw the numbers of people lining the route and gathering in St Helier I had a special sense of pride in the island."

The Jersey Expo will remain open today from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm and exhibitors hope to see as many people as possible down at the Weighbridge.

Stalls range from Jersey Dairy's ice cream van and the seven cows gifted to the King, as well as a fish touch tank, Jersey Sea Salt's collaboration with Liberation Ale, Haithwaite Ceramics and Trees for Life.
