Sport programme investing £50,000 into local organisations and schools

The funds can purchase paid coaching

Eight organisations are each getting a share of fifty thousand pounds to deliver sport in primary schools.

A pilot project for this school year will fund coaching, kit or subsidised memberships  - to remove financial barriers to children taking part.

Netball, padel, kickboxing and  squash are among the sports going into Grands Vaux, La Moye, Mont à L’Abbé. St John. Grouville, Mon Nicolle, Trinity and St Saviour.

The launch, from Jersey Sport, is an evolution of its predecessor - the 'Move More Schools' Grant.

In the new programme, each of the partnership's recipients will be awarded £6,250 for the academic year 2024/25.

The funds can purchase paid coaching and the additional kit or equipment, or provide free or subsidised memberships for students.

Elliot Powell, Head of Sport and Physical Activity at Jersey Sport said:

"We are excited to see how the access to engaging and high-quality external sport provision inspires our next generation of islanders to become physically active.

"We look to remove barriers to activity such as cost or location, to ensure sport is accessible for all young people regardless of their background."
