Skate Park Opening Delayed

Work on Jersey's new skate park at Les Quennevais has been held up due to the impact of the war in Ukraine.

The opening of the facility is expected to be delayed.

The government says the conflict has affected Latvian specialist skate park contractor, Mind Work Ramps.

Changes have also been made to the design of the park following requests from the user group.

Building work began in January, with future users of the park celebrating with a 'spade in the ground' event after years of campaigning.

Planning permission for the £1.8 million park was granted in November 2021.

Work was due to be completed by the end of this month.

No date has been given for when it will open, but it has previously been hoped it will be in use in time for the school summer holidays.

"The bulk excavation and laying of hardcore across the site has been completed, as has initial ecological enhancement work.  The below ground drainage and services will be complete in the next couple of weeks, and the southern screening wall is being constructed.

Officials are working with the design and construction teams to finalise the programme and confirm the completion date." - Government of Jersey.

Earlier this month, the government posted an aerial photo of concrete being laid at the site.

The States Assembly voted to build a new skate park at South Hill Gardens too.

An application was lodged in March 2021.
