Scott Loses 5-A-Side Fight

Former Jersey footballer James Scott says his three and a half year journey to bring sports facilities at FB Fields back into use has reached the 'end of the road'.

Mr Scott's planning application to convert unused netball courts into five-a-side football pitches has been rejected.

Planning officers recommended it be refused because of concerns about noise and nuisance.

"...proposed operations of 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm are considered to be an intensification of use of site and when judged against impact on neighbours, its deemed to have an unacceptable detrimental impact on them in terms of noise and nuisance."

They also said the conversion to football pitches will place 'an additional burden on the already over-used car park serving FB Fields' and conclude that 'introducing a new sports facility does not outweigh overall concerns.'

The Planning Committee denied permission.

Earlier this year, around 3,500 people signed a petition supporting Mr Scott's efforts.

Grainville's PE teacher was supported at the planning hearing by former Sports Minister Senator Steve Pallett, and Jersey Football Association CEO David Kennedy.

James says Jersey is still in desperate need of such a facility, and he'll continue to do all he can to make it happen.
