The Queen has congratulated Jersey's Chamber of Commerce on its 250th anniversary.
The monarch - who's Patron of the British Chambers of Commerce - says she was pleased to hear of the island's successes and passed on her best wishes to members: The letter from The Queen to the Jersey Chamber of Commerce. As well as reflecting on the role the organisation has played in shaping the island's development, plans were revealed to give away £10,000 to students looking to lead local businesses in the future.
The Chamber of Commerce's CEO, Murray Norton, says final preparations for the bursary are underway:
"I am thrilled to introduce the Jersey Chamber Bursary that we will be provided annually, to local students who will be our next commercial captains and industry leaders. We announced this with funding of the first £5,000 and one of our event sponsors Grant Thornton matched that, so we are now in an excellent position to roll out the scheme."
A Board of Trustees for the bursary will be appointed over the coming weeks, and it's hoped that applications will open in 2019.
