Retired Chaplain Raises Thousands For Mind Jersey

A retired school chaplain is taking the plunge in 12 bays around the island this weekend to raise money for mental health charity, Mind Jersey.

Marta Pugsley took up open water swimming after she stopped working full-time, and says it's had massive benefits for both her mental and physical health.

She's due to take a dip in a beach in each of Jersey's 12 parishes over the course of tomorrow - aiming to raise funds and awareness for the local mental health charity.

Friends and family have already donated more than £3,500 since the fundraiser began.

Mrs Pugsley says as well as a personal fitness challenge, her efforts will support a very worthy cause:

"I can’t express how much swimming has benefitted my own mental health during this turbulent global pandemic.

"We’re so blessed to live on such a beautiful Island with access to a huge range of stunning bays, even in the depths of winter! I thank God every day for this opportunity and this is just my small way of giving back."

She's due to take a dip in a bay in every parish, including Ouaisne, Gréve de Lecq and Bouley Bay.
