Poppies Stolen From Market

Between 15 and 20 handmade poppies have been stolen from the Central Market.

They were taken from the wreath arrangements mounted to the fountain.

Each one was made individually to raise as much money as possible for the Royal British Legion.

Market Inspector Simone says the theft is ‘absolutely unacceptable’;

“It is very sad to see that people have been removing the poppies from the wreaths. It is very sad people feel they have to do this because we are trying to support a very worthwhile cause.”

The theft happened sometime between last Friday and yesterday.

Volunteers have made more than 1,700 knitted, crochet and felt poppies to adorn the Central Market Fountain for this year’s Poppy Appeal and Remembrance events.
