Pair Convicted Following 'Vicious' Random Attack

Two men have been found guilty of a 'vicious' attack on a stranger in St Helier.

Mark Goodchild (37) and Addison Mazurke,(29) approached the person on King Street in the early hours of Monday 12 September 2022 before they became aggressive and grabbed his bag from him.

A four-day trial at Jersey's Royal Court heard how they punched him and threw him to the ground 'at least' five times as the victim tried to get away.

The man was left unconscious, which Goodchild and Mazurke filmed on a phone before leaving.

The attack left the victim with a broken collar bone which needed surgery.

He also needed stitches to his ear, suffered swelling to his head and body and was unable to work for several weeks.

The pair were identified by police after an officer reviewed CCTV footage from the area. They were arrested several weeks later.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Caroline Foord says they had singled the victim out and attacked him for no reason.

"This was a particularly nasty and sustained attack and these individuals have not shown any remorse for their actions. The victim has been very courageous to report this matter and we thank him for this.

Such violent and hostile behaviour cannot be tolerated and we will do everything in our power to see offenders such as these being brought to justice."

Goodchild and Mazurke will be sentenced later in the year.
