New Committee To Oversee Outcomes For Children

Islanders are being urged to work with government to make Jersey the 'best possible place' for children.

Children's Minister Deputy Inna Gardiner has made the 'passionate plea' as she begins to set out her plans for improving the outcomes of children.

"Delivering real change for children and families requires a long-term commitment and the support and collaboration of the entire community.

We cannot reach the best outcomes for children if we don’t work together. There is a lot of great work in the community already, but we all need to work in partnership to ensure every child and family thrives. Everyone needs to play their part. The government cannot do it alone."

As part of her plans Deputy Gardiner has announced the 'Children's Outcomes Executive Committee'.

The new committee follows a review into the work of previous Children's Boards.

It has been set up to help provide a 'clear and strategic framework' for the responsibilities the government has for the island's children and young people.

The board will introduce forums to understand children's experiences.

"We are committed to bringing together a wider partnership to help develop and improve outcomes for children and families. We welcome views from all those working with and for families through our new structure and forums"

The government will also ask it to oversee the development of its Children and Young People plan 2024-2027.

Once the committee has been set up, members will meet three times a year.
