Netballer Guthrie And Three Islanders In NY Honours List

Serena Guthrie is made an MBE and three Jersey residents are recognised in the Queen's New Years Honours List.

The England captain and former Jersey Jets player has been included along with fellow Roses teammate Jo Harten.

She has called it a 'true honour' and thanked everyone who has sent messages of congratulations.

The 29 year old led England to bronze in this year's Netball World Cup in Liverpool.  Last year she won gold with England at the Commonwealth Games and was named CI Sports Personality of the Year.

She is currently taking a break from the sport and working with a charity called Sporting Family Change, based in Bath, Bristol and Somerset.

She regularly returns to Jersey and coaches local young netballers, and is due to get married in the island next summer.

Also honoured is Geoffrey Grime who is made an OBE for services to the community.

The chartered account has held a number of key positions in island-life.

He was a States Deputy from 2002-2005, representing the parish of St Mary.

In 2019 the 72 year old retired as Chairman of Jersey Electricity and as a Jurat of the Royal Court.

Frank Laine has been made an MBE for his work with Jersey's drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre Silkworth Lodge and homelessness charity Shelter Trust.

Also becoming a Member of the Order of the British Empire is Stuart Mourant, Chairman of Les Amis and Jersey Mencap.
