The company running the States tenancy deposit scheme has had its contract extended by two years.
MyDeposits Jersey was introduced in 2015 to stop money being withheld unfairly at the end of a tenancy agreement.
Landlords and letting agents are legally required to place their tenant’s deposit in the scheme within 30 days or risk a £2,000 fine.
Nearly 10,000 payments totalling more than £12 million have been protected so far. 96 disputes have been heard through its resolution service.
The scheme will go out to competitive tender in November 2020.
Housing Minister Senator Sam Mezec says he’s working closing with MyDeposits ‘to enhance the service provided by the scheme and ensure that all tenants in Jersey are offered protection.”
