Matthew Snepp (32) has been jailed for eight and half years for grooming and sexually exploiting girls in Jersey by posing as a teenager on social media.

Snepp contacted vulnerable girls on social media, where he posed as a teenager.

He created 45 different Snapchat accounts, which he used to target and exploit potential victims.

Snepped admitted a string of grooming and sexual offences, including unlawful sexual penetration of an older child. 

Jersey's Royal Court has sentenced him to eight and half years in prison.

He also has a 10 year restraining order for four victims and will be on the Sex Offenders register for 15 years. 

Jersey Police have urged parents and guardians to talk openly with their children about the risks of online interactions, and to monitor their children's use of social media.

Key safety advice includes:

• Avoid sharing personal details or images online.

• Be cautious about accepting friend requests from unknown individuals.

• Report suspicious activity or interactions to the police or safeguarding agencies.

Detective Constable Verity Thomas, from the States of Jersey Police, said:

“This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by offenders who use social media platforms to exploit young and vulnerable individuals. The courage of the victims who came forward has been vital in bringing this offender to justice, and we thank them for their bravery.”
