Faustin Kapinga Mutombo has been sentenced to five years in prison for smuggling 56 grams of cocaine into Jersey.
Jersey's Royal Court handed the 31-year-old his punishment after attempting to import £14,000 of the Class A drug.
The man from London came to the island on 17 January 2024 via the overnight Portsmouth ferry service.
He told Jersey Customs and Immigration Officers he was visiting a friend, 'Joey', whom he met on a night out in the UK the previous year.
Sceptical of his answer, the officers arrested him on suspicion of carrying drugs internally.
Mutombo refused to be x-rayed, so he stayed in custody until he 'produced' the 56 grams of cocaine, in two cling film wrapped packages, 14 days later.
Paul Le Monnier, Senior Manager at Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, said:
"This was a lengthy and testing investigation that ultimately led to the seizure of cocaine."
