Man, 26, who crashed car into Pier Road wall arrested for dangerous driving

The man who crashed his car into a stone wall near La Folie Inn on New Year's Eve has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Police were called to the scene at around 7:00 am on 31 December, where they found that a blue Audi A5 had driven into a wall on Pier Road.

It's been confirmed that the 26-year-old driver, who sustained minor injuries, was not intoxicated during the collision.

He has since been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

The incident left a substantial amount of rubble on the ground along Le Quai aux Marchands, which was then shut to motorists.

Officers were seen trying to remove debris from the wall at the scene and tending to the car, which was missing its bumper and number plate following the crash.

The Infrastructure and Environment Department are yet to respond to questions relating to the re-construction of the wall and whether the crash has damaged its integrity.

The road is open to both motorists and pedestrians.
