Jersey’s Workforce Hits Record High

Jersey’s workforce has reached a record 61,930 people.

86% of jobs are filled by people with entitled, or entitled to work status.

Latest Labour Market figures, compiled by Statistics Jersey, show 54,000 of us work in the private sector, and 7,700 in the public sector.

There were 140 fewer States jobs than a year ago – mainly down to fewer staff on zero hours contracts and a reduction in headcount in the parishes.

In total, 11% of the island’s workforce are on controversial zero hours terms.

The finance sector continues to be Jersey’s biggest, employing a fifth of the island’s workforce.

70 retail jobs were lost in the year to June.
