Jersey running club launched to support teenage girls

Inspired by Run for Kezia, the island's first non-competitive running club for teenage girls is being launched.

'See Her Run' hopes to support the mental wellbeing of young islanders by removing barriers to them accessing the sport and bringing people from around the island together.

The sessions will run twice a week at the Freedom Tree in St Helier on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Runs will kick off at 4:30pm from 17 September.

They are for anyone who wants to run for at least 30 minutes at any pace.

It's founder Ceri Tinley tells us her hopes for the club:

"It seemed there was a need for a run group for teen girls because presently the only place the girls can run is competitive.

"This is great, but there is no only-social run group for under 18s, which is really missing.

"It was felt we could create a safe space for girls to run together.

"Its a fun, non competitive space and we can do safe, off-road running.

"For mental health, just getting outside, moving and getting involved with someone for people your own age is essential to keeping up your wellbeing and keeping happy.

"Anyone can come and join from any school in the island and we're really hoping that it will bring people together that might not normally meet."

See Her Run will also be using their £5000 funding grant for Jersey Sport to make the club self-sufficient.

Training will be provided for any female runners aged 18-25 who would like to become qualified group run leaders.

It's hoped these leaders will then go on to lead these group runs for teens.

The funds will also be used to make the club as accessible as possible.
