Jersey Restaurants Not On Pizza Express Closure List

Pizza Express has announced plans to close 73 of its restaurants - but neither of the Jersey restaurants are earmarked to shut.

The proposed closures could result in 1,100 job losses across the UK.

The rescue package, which has to be agreed by creditors, will see 73 of its 470 restaurants close due to the impact of coronavirus on the trade.

Pizza Express, which is majority owned by Chinese firm Hony Capital, said it had also placed the business up for sale.

UK & Ireland managing director, Zoe Bowley, said "incredibly tough decisions to safeguard Pizza Express for the long term" had to be taken.

The chain has said it hopes to redeploy as many staff as possible.

Jersey has two Pizza Express restaurants - one on Halkett Place in St Helier and another in St Brelade's Bay.

Last month, fellow restaurant chain The Casual Dining Group announced plans to close more than 90 restaurants, including the Shipyard at Jersey's harbour and the cafe at the airport, after calling in administrators - blaming the  "extreme operating environment" caused by lockdown.

JPRestaurants has since taken over catering at the island's ports.
