Gilly Glendewar, a specialist nurse, is fundraising for Family Nurse & Home Care by cycling more than 1,000 km around Taiwan.
The nurse and her husband, who will also be celebrating 35 years together, are embarking on the challenge, aiming to ride around 50 km a day.
Slow and steady wins the race, especially in this case, as Gilly has dedicated her time and care to the community with the charity for 26 years.
"The things that we do for our local community, in order to keep people safe and well and at home for as long as possible, it's just phenomenal.
"It's massively underestimated by the vast majority of people until they actually need us and how expensive it is to actually achieve that in the community because we are a charity at the end of the day."
The couple want to enjoy their time in Taiwan, getting to know the locals, experiencing the culture and taking in the scenery, although this will by no means be a leisurely holiday.
"[After] a bit more digging and a bit more research [on Taiwan], quite a challenge, tropical area, humid and wet and very hilly.
"It'll be really nice to do the route itself and hopefully a bit of fundraising for Family Nursing, into the bargain."
Islanders can support Gilly and her husband by donating to her online CrowdFunding page.
