Roy Everitt is taking on the 1,900km challenge to raise money for Dementia Jersey, in honour of his mother-in-law.

The 67-year-old will tackle the challenge from Land’s End to John O’Groats with his brother-in-law and three other friends, supporting Dementia Jersey.

The keen cyclist chose this charity specifically, as his mother-in-law suffers from vascular dementia, which is thought to affect around 180,000 people across the UK.

Roy said:

"This isn’t my first big trip and won’t be my last, although I think it might be the hardest!

"I love cycling though, and I’m so happy I can raise awareness and money for a very good cause while I’m doing it."

The team will be cycling 1,900 km from Penzance, Cornwall to Caithness, Scotland and plan on doing around 60km to 100km a day.

With the challenge starting Sunday, 8 September, the weather is expected to be a little wet and windy, with temperatures in the mid-teens.

Roy wants to raise £1,000 for Dementia Jersey and islanders can donate to his JustGiving page, where everything donated goes straight to charity.
