Intruder Jailed For 3 Years 8 Months

Serial thief Dean Rawlinson (33) has been jailed for three years and eight months for a string of offences, including entering an occupied family home in St Brelade.

Rawlinson got into the property in March 2022, while the homeowner's teenage son was there.

Passing sentence, Bailiff Sir Tim Le Cocq told the court that the boy had not been able to relax at home since the offence, while his father is now 'hypersensitive' to anyone walking near the property.

A month after the intrusion, Rawlinson was arrested for stealing two pairs of sunglasses from department store Voisins.

The Bailiff said his more than 80 previous convictions - including for burglary and theft - meant it wasn't possible for a 'good character' mitigation to his sentence decision.

Rawlinson was also handed a six month ban from holding a driving licence after he was found to be at the wheel unaccompanied on a provisional licence.

Learners must have someone with them when driving who is over the age of 21 and has had a licence for three years or more.

During his arrest he ran away from the Honorary officer before a police van caught up with him, but Rawlinson again managed to evade capture.

He was later apprehended by another officer in town, a two week sentence for resisting arrest was given to run along his other sentences concurrently.
