Plans have been revealed for a women's football tournament between Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight.

The Cherry Godfrey Cup has been developed by financial services company Cherry Godfrey and each of the island's Football Associations.

Teams from Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight will battle it out for the coveted title.

The competition will be held very two years, starting this summer on 23 and 24 August at Jersey's Springfield Stadium.

Tanzy Cherry, Chief Operating Officer at Cherry Godfrey, says the idea came from discussions about how the firm could support women's football: “As far as we knew, there wasn’t a significant tournament outside of the Island Games that gave the teams the opportunity to showcase the incredible talent within the islands.

"To be able to officially launch the Cherry Godfrey Cup resulting from that conversation is a huge achievement."

Jonathan Le Fondre, Football Services Manager of the Jersey Football Association, says they want to inspire women and girls. "The game of female football has been thriving now for a long time.

"We have some amazing volunteers developing football locally, from the grassroots all the way up to the better-player programmes we have for female football."

He hopes the tournament will build upon the growth of the women’s game.

Play-offs will be held on Friday 23rd August.

The 3rd/4th place match will be played in the morning of Saturday 24th August, concluding with the big final in the afternoon at 3pm.

Fixtures will be drawn closer to the time.

Entry to all matches will be free of charge.
