Hospital Roof Made Safe

Gloucester Street is now back open after engineers made the roof above the Hospital Granite Block safe.

Engineers were called just after 10 am after reports of an 'unsafe building structure' caused by the strong overnight winds.

It was then revealed that parts of the waterproofing on the roof of the Granite Block hospital needed to be checked urgently because strong winds caused parts of the flashing to loosen.

After around three hours of work, the roof was made safe so Gloucester Street and Newgate Street could reopen.

All patients with hospital appointments can now attend as normal.

Health and Community Services has thanked everyone for their patience during this incident and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
