Fundraising Gig For Dean & Charlie Lowe

Lowe's Legacy Gig - taking place tonight (25 November) - sold out within hours as the community comes together in memory of Dean and Charlie.

400 tickets for the night of live local music were snapped up soon after their release.

The venue was changed from the Lido to Chambers to be able to accommodate more people.

Dean's bandmate and close friend, Glenn Cowie, says they expected it to be popular, but didn't think it would sell out so quickly.

"It was very rare that you would see Dean sat still. He was always doing something for somebody else, so when the opportunity came up for people to do that for the two boys, it was a no-brainer.

Dean (48) and his 11 year old son Charlie died in August after they were hit by a vehicle in Grouville as they walked home together.

"When we saw the outpouring from the community following the incident, it didn't surprise me that many people wanted to help the cause."

The gig on Saturday night will celebrate the lives of Dean and Charlie, and the things they were passionate about.

Bands including Pretty Vegas, The Impressions, Tony & The Reminders, Mad-Chester Mash Up the Beantles, Take This and Matt, Glenn and Darran will be performing.

Glenn told Channel 103 it is something Dean would have loved.

"This type of gig is something Dean would have absolutely thrived in, and it would have been bang in his element.

People can expect a lot of memories of the two of them, and some amazing local musicians that have given up their time."

The money will go towards the newly set-up Legacy Fund, being managed by the Jersey Community Foundation on the family's behalf.

It will support the performing arts, helping disadvantaged communities and developing those with learning disabilities.

"Dean literally lived to help other people and give other people the opportunities they had afforded him.

I can attest to that. I was just this sort of cocky musician. The following week, we met up, had a jam together, and 20 years later we were still friends.

So far, £53,000 has been raised for Lowe's Legacy Fund.

Another gig will likely be held next summer, and will be open to under 18s to attend to mark what would have been Charlie's 12th birthday.

"The apple certainly hadn't fallen far from the tree. He was just a real charismatic kid.  Really funny and really intelligent, and we just want to carry on their memory in this positive way."
