Free Nursery Hours Here To Stay

Parents are being reassured they won't lose their 20 free hours of nursery care under a redesigned system.

The Education Minister has taken to Channel 103's Facebook page to provide reassurance amid concern about an announcement that the next academic year will be the last for Nursery Education Funding under current arrangements.

A statement from the States said there would be a new way of funding places in 2020.

In a subsequent interview with Channel 103, Senator Tracey Vallois said the aim was to 'enhance the provision' but couldn't say yet what the overhaul might be.

It's led to concern from families worried about budgeting for their child's preschool year.

Former Deputy Jackie Hilton asked for confirmation that no parents would be disadvantaged by the changes.

The Minister's replied - saying 'I can assure all parents that as an absolute minimum the current scheme will stay in place - that is 20 hours a week for 38 weeks.
