Former Paramedic Jailed For 8.5 Years For Rape

Former paramedic David Moody (59) has been sentenced to 8.5 years in prison for raping a vulnerable adult.

Moody pleaded guilty in June to three counts of rape, two of indecent assault and one of sexual penetration without consent.

The former paramedic turned support worker abused his victim over a two-year period.

He was arrested by police at his home in September 2022.

The prosecution told the court that his offending had a ‘significant degree of planning’ which ‘deliberately targeted a vulnerable victim’.

Moody's defence advocate said his client had thought it was consensual at the time but is now ‘deeply ashamed’ of his actions.

Handing down the sentence, Bailiff Sir Tim Le Cocq, says Moody 'exploted his access' to a particularly vulnerable adult', whose condition inhibited their 'proper understanding of his intentions'.

"Your actions have caused extreme psychological harm to your victim,

They now do not believe there is a life free of abuse.

It is difficult for this court to imagine a more serious breach of trust."

Detective Constable Jo Le Maistre says Moody abused his position for his own personal gratification.

"He went against the basic principles that people who work in the care sector live by. He tried to evade detection and justice by silencing his victim with threats, but I am relieved she has now been given a voice."

Moody was employed by the Ambulance Service for 20 years and won awards during his tenure, but had not been employed with the service for over 10 years at the time of these offences.

He has been put on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
