Electric Vehicle Parking Discount To Stop

Drivers of electric vehicles will have to pay full price for parking from 2025, as the popularity of Electric Cars increase.

The 'eco-permit scheme' was introduced in 2008, which gave free or discounted parking for electric vehicles.

The Environment and Infrastructure Ministers have made the joint decision to stop the incentive as the increase in popularity has seen a decrease in revenue from parking charges, which the government say could funding other infrastructure improvements.

The discounts will end on 1 January 2025, meaning someone who buys an electric vehicle in July 2024 will get six months of discounted parking.

Earlier this year, ministers announced an incentive scheme to 'speed up' Jersey's transition to electric vehicles.

It includes grants of 35% of the cost of the car or van, up to £40,000 and £300 towards the cost of a moped or motorbike, up to £5,000.
