Strong winds and heavy rain is causing major disruption in the Channel Islands.

Gales of force 7 - force 8 are sweeping Jersey and Guernsey, alongside snowflakes, hail and rain. 

This has caused problems both in the islands, on water and in the air. 

In Guernsey, islanders are being urged to drive with caution, as the heavy rain continues to flood roads. 

The South Esplanade is currently completely blocked with water, with the road closed to both pedestrians and traffic. 

Guernsey Ports' patrolling staff had to step in and save a 26-foot boat, which was loose, at 9:00 am this morning (21 November).

A sailing vessel broke mooring in Victoria Marina, which Guernsey Ports says was 'moments away' from crashing into the quay wall, but was thankfully brought back under control within two minutes. 

Duty Harbourmaster Kieran Higgs said the weather conditions have proved to be even more disruptive this morning, but at this stage, no major damage has been caused within the harbours. 

Islanders are being reminded to ensure their vessels are secured in sever weather conditions and to check mooring lines, covers and hatches.

In Jersey, motorists are being urged by the police not to travel on the roads unless necessary, as the force is receiving an influx of reports about fallen trees. 

La Grande Route de Faldouet in St Martin, Mont Les Vaux in St Brelade and Fern Valley in St Helier are all confirmed to be currently blocked.

Islanders are reporting that Mont Felard in St Lawrence and La Route du Petit Clos in St Helier are also inaccessible due to fallen trees. 

Air travel to and from both islands has also been disrupted. 

In Guernsey, airlines have suspended operations. The airport says that for safety reasons: 'it is not currently possible to operate airside'. 

Similarly in Jersey, a number of flights have been either delayed, diverted or cancelled. 

It has also been confirmed that there was a fault with power effecting businesses and homes in Jersey, from Robin Place to Hotel Rex.
