Active Covid Cases Fall By More Than Half

The number of active COVID cases in Jersey has fallen by more than half over the weekend, but one person has sadly died at home after contracting the virus.

Since Friday 30 July, 1,496 people who had Covid-19 have recovered.

The government says it's because of the reduction in isolation length announced last week and the large number of cases picked up between 10 and 14 days ago.

169 people have tested positive over the weekend.

The current active total is 1,193. That's compared to 2,523 on Friday.

There are 9 people with COVID in hospital, down from 16 on Friday.

13 care home residents currently have the virus.

A person aged 90+ has died at home after testing positive for Covid-19.

71 people are now known to have died in Jersey after being diagnosed with coronavirus.

The death of a man in his 40s last month who was being treated in hospital has not yet been registered and so has not yet appeared in the statistics.

The number of direct contacts has fallen by more than 5,000 to 3,037.

The government did forecast cases of 500 per day from Tuesday 27 July, but numbers did not get that high.

It was announced last month that nightclubs won't fully reopen and stand-up drinking in bars wouldn't be allowed until September.
