The new Bergerac series is in production, with cameras rolling at the Royal Square.

Day one of filming the re-imagined detective series began yesterday, 22 August at Bouley Bay, where the cast filmed a jetty scene at sunrise.

Crews are set up at the Royal Square today though, where a market set has popped up. 

This is the first day extras have been invited to the production, after hundreds applied to join the iconic Jersey show.

During filming today, Damien Moloney (the new Bergerac) was spotted alongside Jersey actor Timothy Renouf.

The scene taking place today involved a character looking for a police officer, possibly to solve a market-based crime.

We don't know how this exact scene fits into the storyline, but we're told it will feature in the first few episodes of the series. 

More of Jersey is expected to be used for filming, over the next 12 days crews are in the island. 

This includes La Pulente, the north of the island and the Jersey Opera House.

Clare Alan is Head of Production. She tells us how important it is that a large chunk of the show is filmed in Jersey: 

"You want that impact on the screen and you really get it here.

"We are amazingly fortunate that Jersey have let us do this today and we want it keep it really real, vivid and authentic.

"We want the public to interact with the action and we're letting them go through the square. 

"It's not a full closure, we're trying not to impact (islanders) in a negative way."

Timothy Renouf previously told Channel 103 that he's buzzing to be in the reboot, which brings him back to his home town: 

"Out of the blue, this was the first audition I had in so long and I thought - 'what are the chances that it's the Bergerac (series)?' 

"When I got the call that I got it, I was just like, 'this is so funny', I can't wait to be doing a job back home.

"It's a very rare thing, especially in Jersey, its not often that there's a lot of filming around there." 

A chase scene is expected to be filmed later through St Helier in true Bergerac style.
