8,000 Bank Holiday Airport Passengers Expected

Ports of Jersey staff are dealing with their busiest weekend of the year by some distance, with 3,000 people expected through Jersey Airport today (Saturday 29 May).

More than 8,000 travellers are expected over the entire Bank Holiday weekend (Friday to Monday inclusive), with another 2,000 sea passengers expected in too.

"We are expecting a higher number of passengers than we certainly have had this year, perhaps not as many as we would have in normal circumstances.

"The team is all ready, there is a great buzz around the place as well and we're looking forward to welcoming passengers back through Jersey Airport and to our harbours as well.

"Lots of happy smiley faces, lots of families, lots of excited children as well, and we share their excitement.

"Fingers crossed, we're looking forward to a busy, but smooth weekend." - Alan Donald, Ports of Jersey.

The UK is now classified nationally rather than regionally, with England and Wales given green status and Scotland and Northern Ireland given amber classification.

Certain parts of England and Scotland with higher infection rates have had emergency brakes applied, which puts them in the red list.

Anyone coming from green or amber areas who has been fully vaccinated will need a test on arrival but won't need to isolate. They will need to show evidence of having both jabs.

Arrivals from green areas who haven't been fully vaccinated now only require tests on Days 0 and 8.

International travel is now allowed from Jersey again - with Portugal, Iceland, and Majorca on the island's green list.

Jersey has six known active cases of Covid-19. Half of Jersey adults have now been fully vaccinated.
