The 2024 Jersey Christmasa Appeal Charity Auction has raised £62,259 to give needy islanders a better festive season.

Scores of great gifts, practical presents and luxury lots donated by local businesses and organisations were up for grabs in the online auction, which culminates every year in a live grand finale on Channel 103.

The final total raised from auction bids was £56,059.

A garden tour at Tea at Government House went for a staggering £10.000.  A pair of diamond stud earrings sold for £2,600, and a tour of Mont Orgueil Castle in the company of Jersey's Bailiff went for £2,500.

The 'Pledge a Wedge' holiday draw raised a further £6,200.

Islanders pledge £10, or multiples of, to be entered into a prize draw to win a holiday, with the destination becoming increasingly luxurious as the pledge pot grows.

The winner's eventual destination is a week in the Maldives.

It brought the final total raised to £62,259 which is £7,000 more than in 2023.

The appeal helps the island's most disadvantaged with financial support by providing them with vouchers for food, heating and toys. 

Last year, it provided direct help to 1,100 people. It also provides help indirectly by supporting other charities and associations over the festive period.

Its support reaches neglected children, pensioners, single-parent homes, and low income households.
