£200k padel facility coming to Les Ormes in May

Court bookings are already open for the island's new sports facility

Padel courts will open at Les Ormes this summer, part-funded by public money from government grants to boost economic growth.

Les Ormes Padel will be a new island sports facility, set to open by the end of May.  Court bookings are already open.

The facility will feature four panoramic double padel courts, allowing £guests and islanders can get involved in the rapidly growing sport.

£75,000 of the £200,000 cost is being covered by a government grant through the Better Business Support Package.

Applications opened this month for employers to get a share of £10 million to improve productivity.

Les Ormes is the very first organisation to receive such a grant through the online process, the resort's  administered by Jersey Business.

Nathan Maguire, the resort's General Manager said the grant process and outcome has been 'very good':

"We always like to move and get things done; if we want to do something, we like to get going with it.

"We worked with them (JB) as one of their first applicants for the grant. We put in for the maximum grant, which was £75,000 of the cost, so that really does help offset a large amount of it.

"It was very easy -  the whole process from start to finish - as long as you're prepared, with your information - Jersey Business will help you through it. It took a total of two weeks maximum and this is the first one that they've done. It's really good."

The Better Business Grant is the £5.3m fund allocated to Jersey Business in 2025 and again in 2026.

The money is to help employers in all business sectors in Jersey enhance productivity, invest in employee training, and develop new opportunities in the visitor economy sector.

Paul Murphy, CEO of Jersey Business said:

"We are delighted to see Les Ormes receive this significant grant for the development of their new padel facility.

"This project not only enhances Jersey's appeal as a premier active destination but also contributes positively to our local economy."
