Six More Covid Cases At Five Schools

Hundreds more children are isolating today following confirmed coronavirus cases at five Jersey schools.

Pupils at Les Landes, St Luke's and Jersey College Prep have tested positive over the weekend.

The schools have contacted parents and the affected year groups have been asked to stay at home as a 'precautionary measure' to allow the testing process to be completed.

Another student at JCG has also tested positive, along with a member of staff.

Direct contacts of the staff member have been asked to remain at home.

A part-time member of staff at De La Salle has also been diagnosed with the infection.

No students at DLS have required to isolate but the Contact Tracing Team will be offering Covid-19 tests to students on-site for Years 7 and above.

All schools remain open on Public Health advice.

Meanwhile, roads around the airport Covid-19 test centre are blocked because of the number of people queuing for a swab.

St Peter Honorary Police are asking motorists to avoid the area:

The government says that the delays have been cased by an IT issue:

"We have been advised that, due to an IT issue, staff at the COVID-19 Airport Testing Centre are having to manually process bookings for Day 5 and Day 10 travel tests.

"This means that Islanders who are visiting the centre this morning are facing a longer-than-usual wait for their test which is, in turn, causing traffic delays along L'Avenue de la Reine Elizabeth II (the airport road).

"Engineers are working on the issue with the aim of restoring usual service later today. Additional staff have been deployed to the Airport Testing Centre to provide guidance and advice to those who are waiting.

"Any Islanders who are currently in the queue waiting for a test, or who are scheduled for a Day 5 or Day 10 COVID-19 travel test this morning, are advised to come back to the Airport Testing Centre this afternoon, when normal service is expected to resume. The Airport Testing Centre is open until 4.30pm, and affected Islanders will not need to re-book an appointment.

"Islanders who are due to have a COVID-19 test this afternoon should attend their scheduled appointment."

"The rest of the Island's testing capacity is unaffected, and functioning as normal."
