£22.8 Million Awarded From Fiscal Stimulus Fund

Jersey Opera House has been granted £2.2 million for renovations.

The organisations which have benefited from the first round of the government's Fiscal Stimulus Fund have been revealed.

£22.8 million will be given out for projects to help the island recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

£25 million was available.

Government departments, arms-length, and not-for-profit organisations were able to apply for up to £5million to be used towards projects that can be completed by the end of 2021.

93 expressions of interest were made, and 47 met the criteria of giving temporary, targeted, and timely support to the economy.

30 projects received funding. They are:

  • Infrastructure, Housing and Environment: Improve Oakfield sports facilities - £3.148 million
  • Jersey Arts Centre: Refurbish and maintain the centre - £2.959 million
  • Jersey Opera House: Refurbish and maintain the centre - £2.237 million
  • Infrastructure, Housing and Environment: Improving Springfield sports facilities - £1.964 million
  • Children, Young People, Education and Skills: Technology-led skills programme - £1.7 million
  • Jersey Youth Service: The First Tower Youth Development Project - £1.5 million
  • Jersey Heritage: Create an agricultural museum - £1.308 million
  • Customer and Local Services: Give financial incentives to employers when they recruit someone who is unemployed - £1.25 million
  • Trinity Youth Centre: Improve and refurbish the centre - £828,330
  • Jersey Employment Trust: Build a collections, processing, and delivery hub at Acorn Enterprises - £808,336
  • Customer and Local Services: Develop Howard Davis Hall into a community and events space - £750,000
  • Infrastructure, Housing and Environment: Replace and upgrade the Coronation Park paddling pool - £749,650
  • Jersey Spartans Athletics Club: Refurbish the clubhouse - £580,000
  • Infrastructure, Housing and Environment: Demolish and build a new FB Fields Sports Pavilion - £568,500
  • RJA&HS: Develop and upgrade facilities for the 2021 event season - £495,000
  • Jersey Padel: Build more padel courts at St Clement and offer more coaching and training opportunities - £425,350
  • Jersey Cricket: Refurbish the Grainville Cricket facility - £300,000
  • Jersey Heritage: Complete the La Hougie Bie masterplan - £271,000
  • Brook Jersey: Lease refurbishments of a new rental property - £188,992
  • Jersey Baptist Church: Modernise the church - £164,850
  • 7th Overseas Jersey Squadron: Refurbish and upgrade Air Cadet facilities - £203,600
  • Enable Jersey: Build disabled changing rooms and toilets - £87,000
  • Jersey Cheshire Home: Use solar panels - £67,000
  • Jersey Scouts: Refurbish Kenneth Faucon Hall - £50,694
  • Jersey Scouts: Refurbish facilities at St Luke's - £50,328
  • Citizens Advice: Redesign their website - £50,000
  • The Jersey Race Club: Improve facilities and maintain the land - £37,500
  • Jersey Consumer Council: Improve website security and build more links to other sites - £37,000
  • Jersey Youth Service: Upgrade facilities at the Queens Silver Jubilee Activity Centre at Crabbe - £32,000
  • Ebenezer Methodist Church: Create a kitchen refreshment area - £11,000

A Fiscal Stimulus Oversight Group prepared draft recommendations for funding that was reviewed by the Economic Recovery Political Oversight Group and Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel.

The Treasury Minister then considered those recommendations, made decisions and notified the Council of Ministers of what they were.

"The number of applications to the Fiscal Stimulus Fund demonstrate that there is a wealth of potential on the Island, with many organisations who have ambitious plans to help the Island’s recovery.

"I’d like to thank all those who applied for funding for their thoughtful applications. I’d also like to thank both ERPOG and CSSP for their comments and recommendations, which we have listened to and taken into account when deciding on the projects to receive funding both in this and the second tranche of the Fund." - Deputy Susie Pinel.

A second tranche of £25 million is being made available for other projects, including some who were unsuccessful in applying for the first tranche.

That includes Beaulieu School.
