We're Being Asked To Help Clean Our Beaches

A number of marine organisations in the Channel Islands are organising beach cleans this year.

The event will take place this weekend from Friday to Sunday in Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney.

It's a co-operative effort between the Alderney Wildlife Trust, La Societe Guernesiasie, Pick it Up Guernsey and Littlefeet Environmental Jersey.

It's being co-ordinated by the Marine Conservation Society:

By removing litter from our beaches we are helping to protect wildlife in their marine habitat, preventing removed waste from posing a choking, entanglement or digestive problems. Beach cleans are hugely important to understand where the waste that ends up in our oceans and on our beaches is coming from, for example, are there leakage points in nearby countries where waste is being washed downstream and to the sea, is the majority coming from ships or is it from the local area?

You can get involved on the following days:

Alderney
Saturday 11th Jan 2pm Platte Saline
Sunday 12th 2pm Longis

Guernsey
Saturday 11th 2pm Grandes Harves

Jersey
Saturday 11th 2pm Ouasine Bay
Sunday 12th 2pm L'Etacq
