Guernsey's Director of Public Health is calling on people to follow safety precautions after the Bailiwick recorded its highest daily number of coronavirus cases.

59 new infections were picked up yesterday (5 November), taking the active total to 217.

211 are in Guernsey, 4 are in Sark, and 2 are in Alderney.

The increase in case numbers has led the States of Guernsey to post safety messages on social media.

Dr. Nicola Brink has taken to Twitter to ask islanders to 'hold steady and work together.'

It is now strongly recommended that secondary schoolchildren wear face coverings where distancing isn't possible.

The States of Guernsey advised, in a media briefing last month, that masks are worn in crowded and poorly ventilated areas and for lateral flow tests to be taken at least twice a week and before going to large events.

Free lateral flow tests can be collected from Guernsey Information Centre between 9am-3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10am-2pm on Saturdays only.
