Six kitchen knives were discovered piercing a black bag in a recent rubbish collection.
Guernsey Waste says improper disposal of sharp objects like this endangers its staff and machinery.
It's believed the general waste bag was collected around Allez Street, in St Peter Port.
Operations manager Sarah Robinson says she is glad the knives were seen and put aside before someone got hurt:
“We urge the public to adopt a mindful approach with the disposal of items, as haphazardly discarded objects not only pose a threat to lives but can also cause significant damage to our machinery.
If you are unsure of how to dispose of dangerous items have a good look at our web page which identifies the most common dangerous waste items and explains how to easily dispose of them properly."
