Deputies vote by 36 to 1 to introduce laws to clamp down on careless, dangerous and drug driving.
There was strong political approval of the policy letter from Home Affairs.
It means there'll be new laws to deter careless or inconsiderate driving - causing death or serious injury, and, an offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Like the police in England, Guernsey will clamp down on drivers who get behind the wheel after having taken drugs.
Legal limits will be introduced and there'll be roadside screening tests for both alcohol and drugs.
This will remove the current requirement for suspected drink drivers to only be tested at the Police station, and allow for portable equipment to be used.
It will now be for the law officers to draft the new legislation.
