Will Parking On Piers End?

Seafront Enhancement Steering Committee will look at St Peter Port parking issues.

As part of the proposed Seafront Enhancement scheme parking could be removed from piers in St Peter Port and relocated elsewhere. Deputy Barry Brehaut says the Steering Group recognises the need for good parking in town and an alternative will need to be discussed.

The proposal to clear the piers of vehicles is one of 16 suggestions put forward and the States would like to hear your opinions.

Deputy Brehaut says 'If we are removing cars from the piers then we will need to either build alternative spaces beneath the piers or in some other structure in St Peter Port.

The Seafront Enhancement Area (SEA) Programme has been engaging with the public for new ideas to improve and develop six specific sites on the St Peter Port seafront and has seen significant progress in 2019.

The vision set out by the Steering Group is to position Guernsey’s east coast as a world class maritime location, thereby enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of Guernsey as a whole.

Preferred bidders for four of those sites, the two sites at La Vallette, Round Top Stores and the States Offices which house the Tourist Information Centre, have now been announced. Discussions are being made with interested parties for the two other sites at Vivier Bunker and North Plantation, announcements for both of those should be very soon.

In 2020, the Steering Group are hoping to begin looking at a more coordinated, holistic approach to enhancement opportunities for the whole of the seafront.

More details on how the Steering Group intends to progress this main phase will be released next year.
