Pilot Scheme Encourages More French Visitors

French day-trippers can now travel to the Channel Islands without having to use their passports for the first time since Brexit, as part of a pilot scheme.

Passengers using the Manche Iles service can head to Jersey or Guernsey for the day using just their national ID card.

This was previously possible but since Brexit, French visitors have had to use their passport instead, which is thought to have contributed to a sharp decline in French tourism.

The first French day trip passengers are arriving in Jersey today, while the Guernsey service will begin next weekend.

The new pilot scheme will run throughout the summer and it is hoped the change will encourage more passengers to visit the islands.
