States members in Guernsey have overwhelmingly approved a £25 rise in parking fines.
Home Affairs says the current financial penalties for parking offences are not severe enough to deter motorists from breaking the law.
Around 14,000 notices are issued each year.
Deputy Rob Prow is Committee President:
"The fines have remained unchanged for over a decade ,during which time inflation has risen dramatically.
Therefore, it is necessary, in order to maintain and reinforce the deterrent effect, to increase these levels."
34 deputies agreed, 2 voted against - 4 were not present.
The proposition will come back to the Assembly as a draft ordinance.
At that point, it can be debated again, and if approved, it will then become law.
