P&R Out After No Confidence Vote

Guernsey's Policy and Resources committee has been ousted by fellow States members after a lengthy no-confidence debate.

The vote was called by Deputy Charles Parkinson in November after the island's top committee failed to get its funding and investment plans, which included a goods and services tax, approved.

P&R's Treasury lead, Deputy Mark Helyar, and fellow committee member Deputy Dave Mahoney resigned ahead of the debate which began at the last sitting.

After several hours of speeches, the debate was adjourned and resumed this morning.

The committee lost the Chamber's confidence 23 votes to 16.

Deputies will now elect a new composition of P&R this afternoon.

Deputies Lyndon Trott and Peter Roffey are tipped to grab the job of Guernsey's lead politician.
