More Insight Into Guernsey's Exam Results To Be Published

Education hopes to make Guernsey's exam result reports more accurate and easier to compare to other jurisdictions with 3 sets of data this year.

Three 'performance indicators' will be published by Education this year.

These are: The percentage of students achieving 4 or 5 in English and Maths, the general subject achievement rate (which is called Attainment 8 in England) and the percentage of students who got each grade.

The Education, Sport & Culture committee introduced Attainment 8 statistics in 2019, but covid disrupted the data until now.

Education hopes this combination of data will allow Guernsey students and educationalists to be compared to Jersey and England and placed on a national scale of success.

The Head of Education Improvement, Clare Sealy, explains why the change is necessary now:

"The publication of Attainment 8 has been incredibly helpful in recent years, and at the time of its introduction we agreed we would phase out the old statistics, and now that time has come.

We will be ensuring this year’s results are still comparable with recent years as well and are confident that the new measures paint a more accurate picture of a cohort’s successes.”
