Meet 'Angus' who has hitchhiked from the USA to Guernsey

Guernsey's Animal Shelter is looking after a large black beetle after a local family ordered a toy online and found a surprise in it.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne says the beetle is an unusual guest.

The creature, now nicknamed Angus, was found by a family who had ordered a playhouse online.

The box came to Guernsey from Pennsylvania, in America.

Steve says Angus is now in quarantine at the Shelter, with plenty of greens to eat.

“A family recently bought a playhouse from a shop in Guernsey and when they opened the box, which was from the State in the US originally, they discovered what we believe is a Meloe Angusticollis or more commonly known as a short-winged blister beetle.

We believe it is male as he keeps leaving oily spots which the males do to deter predators.”

Angus has travelled more than 3,500 miles
